Many people have aromatherapy massages to help relieve the pressure in their lives so we thought you might appreciate a few ideas to further help.

It is impossible to remove all stress from your life and in fact you would not want to. Your body suffers the same from the excitement of a new date, a new baby or a win on the pools as it does from the loss of a job or a dearly loved parent. In fact we sometimes go in search of that adrenaline rush by taking the Nemesis or Oblivion at Alton Towers or going on a white water ride!

The trick is to learn to cope with these ups and downs and appreciate the here and now because that is what life is about. You only get one chance at each day, this is no rehearsal. Below is an action plan  - not in any particular order:

  1. Don't panic - this just adds another level of stress with out giving you any benefit.

  2. Live one day at a time - enjoy the positive things you do have e.g. your health, the love of friends and family, your job or your hobbies.

  3. List your sources of stress.

  4. Sort out your priorities and tackle the important things first - learn the difference between urgent and important.

  5. Talk your problems through - a problem shared truly is a problem halved. Others may have insights and experience that may help you. Get expert advice if necessary.

  6. Learn your job properly, delegate if necessary and avoid perfectionism.

  7. Learn how to manage your time - have time off for recreation, a hobby and most importantly a daily quiet period just for contemplation.

  8. List your ambitions and aspirations - be realistic.

  9. Eat sensibly and exercise.

  10. Learn relaxation and practice it regularly. Like everything, the more you practice the better you become at it.

To help you relax, set aside 15 minutes, organise some peaceful warm, surroundings where you will not be disturbed, and recreate the experience of your aromatherapy massage. Light a couple of candles and turn off the lights in your chosen room, add a few drops of the oils that were used in your massage, to a  bath or as a room fragrance, play the relaxation music you listened to during your massage and just enjoy!
